as it carries that sound of christmas
louder than the sound of the reindeer's sleigh
taken back in time to a place so different
sitting in class, waiting for the school bell
just a kid there doing what i do well
looking at the wall, images of kids
too poor to afford any gifts and i'm thinking...
am i way too comfortable?
sitting here eating my lunchables
santa, are you thinking of the homeless too?
cause if you aren't i'm finna blow a hole in you
just playing, but i'm glad that we drove to the shelter
giving to the kids who were just my age

i still remember those holidays
a dark, cold night during college days
and even though my mom was a call away
i remember feeling joy just fall away
loneliness crept in like the grinch does
it didn't feel like a very white christmas
just me and this tiny television
in a cold room doing dishes
and i pictured how it's supposed to be
lights hung around that christmas tree
santa climbing down that chimney
charlie brown teaching me what christmas mean
and i pondered what christmas is
a christmas list full of expensive gifts?
or maybe it's a time God calls to mind
that ours hearts are where the presence of His Spirit lives
and where the Spirit is no depression lives
no loneliness, only His perfect gifts
full of holiness, full of joy and peace
full of righteousness, full of all i need
from mourning to dancing, sorrow to joy
if tomorrow is void i'll remain in Your plans
i'm raising my hands
i rejoice and i dance cause...
